A color e-ink frame is a gift that looks like a framed print, needs no cord and no charging for months, and can show new family photos all year. Here are our picks by budget, based on the makers’ specs and published reviews (we haven’t tested them ourselves).

Buying in the UK
Most e-ink frames launch in the US first. The ones you can buy from a UK store or Amazon.co.uk today are the SwitchBot AI Art Frame (from £159.99), Bloomin8 (13.3" on Amazon.co.uk) and InkPoster (Creative Bloq lists the 13.3" Affresco at £650). The Aura Ink isn’t sold in the UK yet; ordering from a US store can add shipping and import charges.
Tips for giving an e-ink frame
- Load it first. With the Aura Ink you can preload photos before you give it (Digital Camera World). With others, set up the app and send a few photos before wrapping.
- Charge it fully so it works straight out of the box.
- Pick the right photos: bright, simple, high-contrast ones look best. Preview them on e-ink first, and see which photos suit e-ink.
- Think about light: e-ink is invisible in the dark. For a dim hallway, the Aura Ink’s front light helps.
- Check the returns policy of the shop, especially for crowdfunded or overseas brands.
